St. John Nam, Williamsbridge

See pages 299 and 300 for the Korean Catholic parish of St. John Nam, which apparently was established in 1989 at some other location, and in 2007 moved into the church of St. Mary on White Plains Road near East 215 St, Williamsbridge. Above the outdoor schedule of Masses is the heading, "St. John Nam R.C. Church 1989.  St. Mary R.C. Church 1866."  The schedule was photographed in May, 2012.

A block south of the church is the elevated station of the #2 White Plains Road train, which travels the Seventh Avenue Subway in Manhattan.  John Baptist Nam, 1806-1866, beheaded for his Christian faith, was canonized by Pope John Paul II.

A statue of Mary is to the left of the church, which appears to have beautiful grounds.

St. Thomas, East 221 Street

The church has roots in Kerala, India, going back to the time of St. Thomas the Apostle. This is a Catholic parish, not under the jurisdiction of the Latin Rite archbishop of New York, but rather through the Syro Malabar bishops. In 2002, the archbishop of New York offered this pastor and congregation this former church of St. Valentine, built in 1937.  See pages 236 and 240 Thomas Shelley's book for the foundation of the Polish parish of St Valentine in 1889.

St Lucy, at Mace and Bronxwood Aves., Williamsbridge

See pages 482 and 484 for the parish of St. Lucy, shown above on the northwest corner of Mace Avenue and Bronxwood Avenue, Williamsbridge. The parish was established in 1927. Immaculate Conception, Gun Hill Road, Williamsbridge

See page 231 for the 1902 beginning of Immaculate Conception church, on Gun Hill Road, just east of White Plains Road, in Williamsbridge. The present large church dates from 1925.
